As you have said, it has "extra detergents and other additives". All these oils are different in some subtle way. Do you really want to take a chance in a motor where the oil is so critical.
Life's blood of the machine and all that. Remember that the clutch is also swimming in the oil and all you have is one big cylindar.
The engineer in me says stick to specification and better safe than sorry.
